ChildhoodAdolf Hitler was born on April 20, 1889. In 1876, his father Alois assigned the family the surname of Hitler. After Alois's retirement, Adolf spent his childhood in the capital of northern Australia, Linz. Hitler was not a good student. He never surpassed a secondary education. After leaving school he lived a lonely and isolated life until World War I started and he joined the 16th Bavarian Reserve Infantry Regiment. Hitler seemed to enjoy being in the military. He was relieved to be free of an ordinary civilian life. His bravery in battle resulted in him being presented with the Iron Cross: First Class, which was a rare decoration.

Hitler's Rise To Power
Hitler joined the small German Workers Party in September 1919. The party was renamed National-Sozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei Party (The Nazi Party). Hitler's bitterness created the widespread of discontentment. In July of 1921 he became the leader of the Nazi Party. In 1923 Erich Ludendorff tried to force the Bavarian Government to declare a national revolution. He was put on trial for treason, but he took advantage of the publicity. He learned a lesson, the movement has to gain power legally. In 1930 Hitler made an alliance with Alfred Hugenberg. In 1932 Hitler opposed Hindenburg in the election gathering 36.8 percent of the votes on the second ballot. In 1933 Hitler was offered the chancellorship of Germany. After being appointed chancellor, Hitler was an absolute dictator. On March 7th the Enabling Bill gave Hitler full power.
